What
is Homeopathy?
The
term Homeopathy comes
from the Greek word homoios
meaning similar and pathos
meaning suffer.
It was founded on
a set of principles developed by Dr.
Samuel Hahnemann (1755-1843) (see
Philosophy).
These principles include
the doctrine of treating like
with like and the potency,
whereby practitioners prescribe a
minute amount of a substance that
would cause symptoms of illness in
a well person to cure similar symptoms
in a sick person.
Classical homeopathy
is a holistic form of therapy, which
involves and treats the physical as
well as emotional level. It is based
on the knowledge that there is more
to the human being than the sum of
its individual parts.
Homeopathy,
therefore, looks at the complete person
and does not limit treatment to only
the particular symptoms.
Consequently,
a number of persons with the same
illness might each receive a different
homeopathic remedy, each one aimed
at that individuals totality
of symptoms.
Homeopathy supports the
body in its fight for health.
