History
and Philosophy of Ortho-Bionomy®
Ortho-Bionomy®
was developed in the U.S. by Dr. Arthur
Lincoln Pauls (1929-1997), an Anglo-Canadian
osteopath.
From his experience as a Judo instructor
and through his subsequent training
as an osteopath, Dr. Pauls began to
develop this method in the late sixties.
After qualifying as an osteopath, he
was mainly using the gentle positioning
techniques developed by Lawrence Jones (osteopath),
where the client's body has to be put
into the most comfortable natural position.
He was looking for a way to work with
the body, which honoured the body's
inherent wisdom.
Dr. Pauls achieved this by exaggerating
the bodys preferred postures,
without using force, thereby permitting
the bodys self-healing process,
creating greater balance and alignment.
Since 1974, Ortho-Bionomy® has been
taught in many countries around the
world.
In 1987, the therapy was introduced
in Germany by my tutor Hans Diepold
(Tübingen, Germany), who was trained
by Dr. Pauls in the United States. |

The
Sanddollar
Arthur Lincoln Pauls chose the sanddollar
as the symbol for Ortho-Bionomy®,
one of the oldest living structures
on earth.
His philosophy has, therefore,
been reflected in a living creature,
having a centre which is not necessarily
the mathematic-geometric middle.
Ortho-Bionomy®, however, respects
the fact that the centre of each individual
is connected with his unique personality.
